The mission of the Saint Mathew 25 Society is in the teaching of the Gospel according to Saint Mathew (25, 35-40). To follow the teaching of Jesus, our members feed the hungry; clothe the naked; shelter the homeless; visit the sick; and give to the one who asks.
Saint Anna’s parishioners generously donate non-perishable food and give monetary donations. Because of their gifts, we are able to maintain a food pantry and issue vouchers for food and clothing. Families in need may call the Rectory for assistance. To assist the homeless, we donate food and vouchers for bedding to various shelters. We also give food assistance to people with developmental disabilities and their families. We donate to the Deacons of the Diocese of Worcester for distribution to the Urban Ministries. We have designated the first weekend of each month as St. Matthew 25 Society weekend in which we ask our parishioners to donate to our food pantry to help those less fortunate than we are.
The holidays can be difficult for some families. Our parishioners make it possible for us to give Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Donations to our Christmas Giving Tree number over 400 gifts which are given to several charitable organizations for distribution to children.
We remember the elderly, the ill and homebound, those in hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities with Spiritual Bouquets and Masses. We honor our men and women in the military several times throughout the year with Masses. Another special part of our mission is to bring the Holy Eucharist to the residents of the local nursing homes.
We have a Prayer Card suitable for anniversaries, birthdays, Christmas greetings, healing and other occasions. Children and adults may give Mass offerings, Rosaries, Holy Eucharist, Novena prayers and other devotions to remember the special occasion. Both the giver and receiver of the cards receive blessings of prayer. The Prayer Cards are available at the Rectory.
